James Colletti was raised in suburban Park Ridge and has been working in multi-family residential real estate his entire professional career. His father and grandfather owned rental properties in Melrose Park, Franklin Park & Chicago, and growing up he was tasked with basic janitorial and landscaping duties on weekends and during the summer. He quickly learned the maintenance side of the industry and worked for his family in that capacity throughout high school. After high school, James attended and received his BA from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, majoring in English with a minor in Spanish.
After college, James spent several years as one of three Leasing Agents at a 732-unit property in suburban Schaumburg. Looking for advancement opportunities, he went to work for Equity Residential Properties as the Assistant Property Manager at a 400-unit property in suburban Naperville. With Equity, he served as a Field Trainer, instructing all Equity Residential employees in Fair Housing, Customer Service and Crisis Response. At Equity, he also learned the intricacies of large-scale property management including leasing and marketing, unit pricing, collections, turnover, and the value of customer service. Within 2 years, he was promoted to be the Property Manager of a 612-unit property in the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
He has since held a variety of positions, including Regional Manager of a 4,000-unit four-state portfolio, Project Manager for a 551-unit condominium conversion development, Portfolio Manager overseeing 2,000 units for a Chicago-based rehab company, and Maintenance Supervisor for a 400-unit high-rise with Avalon Bay Communities.
As a Leasing Agent with Root Realty, James is able to indulge his “people-person” attitude, his passion for problem solving and delivering not just superior customer service, but customer satisfaction. His comprehensive background in the multi-family rental industry continues to provide him with a unique eye for all aspects of the leasing process, including multi-platform marketing, effective unit pricing, prospect screening and turnover.
